Providing Sexual Health Services to the People of Notting Hill

If you are worried after unprotected sex, have noticed an unusual symptom or want reassurance before starting a new relationship, speaking to a doctor can help you understand what to do next.

Broadgate GP provides private sexual health services for patients travelling from Notting Hill and surrounding areas. Although our clinic is based at 65 London Wall near Liverpool Street rather than in Notting Hill itself, patients visit us from Notting Hill Gate, Portobello Road, Holland Park and across West London when they want prompt, confidential care.

Our experienced GMC-registered doctors provide clear, non-judgemental advice based on your circumstances. Broadgate GP is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and same-day appointments may be available.

Confidential Care at Our Notting Hill Sexual Health Clinic

It is normal to feel nervous about discussing your sexual health. You may be concerned about a symptom, worried about privacy or unsure whether you need testing.

Our doctors will listen and explain your options without judgement. You can discuss contraception, relationships, sexual partners, unprotected sex or possible exposure to a sexually transmitted infection.

You may want an appointment because a condom split, a partner received a positive result, or you have noticed pain, itching, sores or unusual discharge. You can also attend when you have no symptoms but want peace of mind.

Our Notting Hill sexual health clinic service welcomes adults regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality, relationship status or sexual orientation.

What Sexual Health Services Are Available?

The tests or treatment you need will depend on your symptoms, the type of sexual contact involved and when the possible exposure occurred.

Our private sexual health services include STI and HIV testing, symptom assessments, blood tests, urine tests, swabs, pregnancy testing, contraception advice and private prescriptions where clinically appropriate.

We can also provide sexual health advice after unprotected sex, discuss how to protect your partners and arrange referrals for further sexual and reproductive health support.

You do not need to choose a test before attending. Your doctor will assess your circumstances and explain which options are suitable.

Private STI Testing and Treatment

Testing may be recommended if you have symptoms, have had unprotected sex or have been told that a sexual partner has an infection.

Broadgate GP can arrange testing for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, herpes, hepatitis, mycoplasma, ureaplasma, trichomonas and bacterial vaginosis.

Depending on your circumstances, testing may involve blood, urine or a swab from the throat, genitals or another relevant area. Some swabs can be taken by you in private.

A physical examination may be suggested when symptoms need to be checked. This will be explained beforehand and only carried out with your consent. A chaperone can also be requested.

If an infection is found, your doctor will explain the treatment, prescriptions and any ongoing care you may need. They can also advise whether recent sexual partners should arrange testing.

HIV Testing, PrEP and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis

An HIV test may be appropriate following unprotected sex, condom failure, shared injecting equipment or another possible exposure to HIV infection.

The right test depends partly on when the exposure took place. Testing too early may mean that an infection is not yet detectable, so tell your doctor the correct date.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis, known as PrEP, is medicine taken before possible exposure to reduce the risk of HIV. Post-exposure prophylaxis, known as PEP, is an emergency course of medication considered after a possible exposure.

HIV post-exposure prophylaxis should be started as soon as possible and usually within 72 hours. Do not wait for symptoms.

Contraception and Emergency Contraception

Our doctors can discuss contraception and help you consider an option suited to your health and circumstances. This may include advice about condoms, the pill and other prescribed methods.

Emergency contraception may reduce the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. The most appropriate option depends on how much time has passed and your medical history.

When Should You Seek Sexual Health Support in Notting Hill?

You do not need to feel unwell before arranging a sexual health check. Many people attend because they want reassurance or wish to protect a current or future partner.

Consider booking an appointment after sex without a condom, when a condom has broken or slipped or when a partner has received a positive result. Testing can also be useful when starting a new relationship.

You should speak to a doctor if you have pain when passing urine, unusual discharge, sores, itching, a rash or unexpected bleeding. Concerns about pregnancy, contraception or possible HIV exposure should be addressed promptly.

How Soon After Unprotected Sex Should You Get Tested?

The right time depends on the infection. Some tests may be useful within days, while others need several weeks before they can reliably detect an infection. Testing too soon may produce a negative result even when an infection is present. Tell your doctor when the exposure occurred so they can advise whether to test now or at a later date.

What Happens During a Sexual Health Appointment?

Your appointment begins with a private conversation. The doctor may ask about symptoms, contraception, recent partners and the date and type of possible exposure.

These questions help determine which tests are medically relevant. You can ask why a question is needed or explain if you feel uncomfortable.

The appointment may involve blood, urine or swab samples. A physical examination will only be suggested where clinically necessary and with your consent.

You may attend alone or ask whether a partner, trusted person or family member can accompany you. A chaperone is available on request.

Before you leave, your doctor will explain when results are expected, whether you should avoid sex or use condoms and whether you need further testing or treatment.

How Long Do Sexual Health Test Results Take?

Result times depend on the infection and the laboratory test used. Some results may be available on the same day, while others take several working days.

Your doctor will explain the expected timeframe during your appointment. Broadgate GP aims to communicate results promptly, although same-day results cannot be guaranteed for every test.

You will also receive advice about what to do while waiting. This may include avoiding sexual contact or using condoms until your results and any treatment are complete.
