The three physical signs that have been listed as indicators of COVID in the UK include a high temperature, a new and continuous cough, as well as a loss or change to sense of smell or taste. Research has shown that there is a different symptom pattern in those who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Some of those who have had both vaccinations have experienced the following:

  • Headache
  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat

Studies have also shown that few symptoms have been reported over shorter periods of time by those who have been vaccinated, this suggests that they are either falling less seriously ill or getting better more quickly.

The vaccines work effectively when it comes to reducing the spread of severe disease, this can reduce hospitalisations and deaths. In the UK, the Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines that are available, provide different efficiency rates but do provide an important level of immunity to COVID-19.

Recent findings support the need for scientists to expand the UKs official list of COVID-19 symptoms. A recent article by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) states that most positive COVID cases include these unofficial symptoms.

Symptoms like a headache, blocked or runny nose, weakness or fatigue, aching muscles, reduced appetite or a sore throat, don’t tend to be present in those who are currently infected.

Previous more traditional symptoms that are included on the Government website, include a persistent cough, loss of smell and fever, these seem to rank down the list. We do remind everyone despite this, you need to pay attention to your health, isolate yourself if you’re not well and keep following the mask-wearing and hand-washing guidance.
