Travelling to Olympics? What travel vaccines do you need?

If you are planning on travelling to the next Olympics being hosted in Brazil this summer, you will need to have all of the necessary vaccinations to ensure you are immune to a number of potential diseases that you could be exposed to. These diseases include:

Begin your vaccination schedule 2 months before departure

Depending on individual circumstances, it is recommended that you get checked out and prepare your vaccination schedule 2 months before you are due to travel. It may be that you need vaccinations that are delivered by a course of injections over a 6 week period before your become fully immunise.

If you live and/or work here in London, you can call in to the walk-in travel clinic we operate here at Broadgate Clinic London Wall, where we can assess you and sort out any vaccination schedule you may need. We can carry out any necessary vaccinations and also furnish you with appropriate certification showing that you are effectively immunised.

In addition to the diseases shown above, against which you can be immunised, there are some other diseases whereby there are no currently approved vaccines. These diseases include:

  • Chikungunya
  • Dengue
  • Malaria
  • Zika virus infection

Because there are no currently approved vaccines against any of these infections, the recommended course of action to protect your health is mosquito bite prevention.
