If you think that you may have caught crabs then you will probably feel embarrassed! This is a normal response to any issue with your sexual health, however pubic lice is a common sexual problem and is nothing to be embarrassed about. The most important thing to do if you discover lice in your pubic region is to consult a doctor and receive the correct treatment.
What is the Treatment for Pubic Lice?
If you find yourself with a case of pubic lice it is essential to avoid sexual contact with anyone until treatment has been completed. You will also need to wash your clothes and bedding to prevent re-infection.
It is advisable to visit your doctor if you find pubic lice, as they will be able to suggest the best treatment. It is likely that you will be provided with an insecticide cream or lotion. This cream will need to be applied to the entire body, with particular attention being paid to hairy areas. Depending on the cream you are prescribed, it will need to be left on for between 12 and 24 hours. Once the time-period has passed you can wash off the lotion. This treatment will need to be repeated after a few days as instructed.
Infestations Due to Sexual Contact
Pubic lice are not always passed on through sexual contact, however if you believe that you may have caught them through sexual contact then it is important to get tested for other STDs. Your doctor will be able to check your sexual health by taking swabs and blood tests.
