Essential Health Screen
An Essential Health Screen is one of the most important decisions you can make to better understand your personal health problems and current health status.
The doctors at Broadgate GP will help you identify aspects of your lifestyle that might be putting you at risk, and providing you with guidelines to make the necessary changes to improve your health. Most importantly, health screens could lead to early detection of disease and present you with the opportunity to deal with health problems early on.
The Essential Health Screen (£300) lasts about 1 hour with the full screen completed by the Doctor and it covers the following areas:
- Questionnaire and discussion of medical history
- Full physical examination including rectal examination for patients over the age of 45
- Weight and height assessment with a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation
- Visual acuity assessment
- Peak flow test (indicator of lung disease)
- Resting ECG
It is also important to manage your heart health. Regular blood pressure and cholesterol tests are important.
a. Blood tests:

Blood tests are individually priced and we provide you with the results of the majority of blood tests within 24hrs. In most circumstances we charge a consultation or phlebotomy fee.
- Cholesterol profile
- Fasting blood glucose (diabetes)
- Full blood count
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Urine analysis

Additional tests can be added to the Essential Health Screen should you have specific concerns. These are priced separately and could include the following:
- Prostate specific antigen (PSA) for male patients over the age of 45
- Mammogram, breast ultrasound or chest X-rays
- Cervical Chlamydia swab
- Cervical smear
- Thyroid function test (TFT)
- Laboratory urine investigations
- Stool samples for occult blood – recommended for patients over the age of 40
It is the role of your immune system to ward off as many infections and diseases as possible. It cannot however catch them all. This is why health screening is important.
Its perhaps surprising how many people visit their GPs for trivial reasons. In a stretched NHS this causes severe problems, but here at Broadgate GP, if you are worried about any aspect of your health, we welcome your visit.
